Tip Tuesday #1: Wig Styling

Hello Generation of Cosplayers!
Tuesdays are officially Tip Tuesdays! So expect a post every Tuesday about cosplaying tips ^_^

Today's topic is...wig styling!

As you can imagine, wigs are a huge part of cosplaying. Most cosplays require the use of a wig, even if wigs are somewhat annoying to wear. So of course you do your best to look for the perfect wig for your cosplay. But sometimes we can't find a wig that matches our character's hair exactly so we are forced to buy an unstyled wig. That is where wig styling comes in!

Above is a wig that is very similar to the one I purchased for my Hinata cosplay. As you can see, it looks nothing like Hinata's hair. The bangs are too long, and the hair overall is too long. First you will need some equipment: hair scissors, thinning scissors, a brush, and some hair spray! If you are serious about cosplaying, these should be part of your cosplay arsenal!

There are tons of tutorials on how to cut wigs, so check out YouTube for video tutorials. I will leave you with one huge tip on cutting wigs though: always cut the hair fibers vertically. Doing this will give you a better-looking result and you will avoid cutting too much hair off your wig. Use the thinning shears to thin out any areas of your wig  and use the hair spray to style the hair in place! If you want to go the extra mile, cutting and styling a wig will make your cosplay look much better!

Here's the Hinata wig after I cut the bangs, the side locks, and also added some hair spray to the side locks to keep them in place. Much better, right?

Basically all I'm trying to say is not be scared of snipping your wig just a bit. It might come out looking a lot better! Just make sure to go slow and to take your time!

See you next time ^_^
