What Not To Do When You Work On Cosplay #2: Hot Glue Gun

Hello Generation of Cosplayers!

DarthNancy here ^_^ It's What-No-To-Do Thursday!  It's time to talk about the mistakes many of us make while we work on cosplay.

Today's topic will be... what not to do when using a hot glue gun!

Some of you might be thinking, "a hot glue gun? That's pretty safe! How can you possibly go wrong with a hot glue gun?" Well, kids, I'm here to tell you that you can go very wrong with a hot glue gun! I speak from experience...*insert traumatic flashback to incident involving hot glue gun*

What happens when using a hot glue gun goes terribly wrong...
When I was working on my Yamuraiha cosplay, I was using a hot glue gun to glue the shells onto a strapless bra. I was wearing a short dress and I was gluing the shells on my lap. As I was applying the glue on the bra, some excess glue dripped off the bra and onto my leg. This glue was extremely hot and it gave me second degree burns on the side of my knee. The burns were so bad, they took about 3 weeks to even scab over (not too mention that they were all gross looking for those 3 weeks). I still have the scars of the burn on my leg.

Hot glue is extremely useful when working on cosplay. But, be aware that you can burn yourself quite badly if you are not careful. Make sure you either 1) have a suitable work surface or 2) have all your skin covered by clothing. Just be careful not to give yourself 2nd degree burns! My case was more serious, but if you use hot glue you will probably end up burning your fingers quite often, so be prepared!

See you next time ^_^
